Ailsa, Luba, Apache (1975)
The first Belgian Tervuren that I ever owned was Ch Luba vom Gebirge CDX. Known as Luba to her friends and family, she was an experience in Belgians! She taught me more than I ever wanted to know about dogs and was the inspiration for a life long interest in behavior and training. A beautiful dog with an excellent temperment, a sense of humor, and a mind as sharp as a tack -- I still consider myself fortunate to have had such a good Tervuren as my first Tervuren. However, she is the example that I use most often when folks are interested in a Terv for the first time. Active, inquisitive, and smarter than the average dog - she was quick to outwit me far more times than I would like to remember!
The first four litters that I bred were done with the prefix Sunburst. Luba became my foundation brood bitch and produced three litters for Sunburst Tervuren - my orginal kennel name. She was bred to:
CH Geronimo de Chateau Blanc,
producing the Sunburst A litter
CH Ugo des Hauts de Bievres (FR),
producing theSunburst B litter
CH
Maverick de Chateau Blanc,
producing theSunburst D litter
From my A litter, I kept CH Apache of Sunburst CD. Apache produced two litters for me. One litter was under the Sunburst kennel name and the other under Cachet Noir - the name I still use today. She was bred to:
CH Lancer de Chateau Blanc BAR,
producing the Sunburst C litter
CH StarBright Bonne Chance CDX
Am/Can TD HIC PD1, PD2 BAR,
producing the Cachet Noir E litter
From the C litter, the bitch you will see in many pedigrees is CH Sunburst Cherokee Rose CD and from the E Litter, a name you will recognize is CH Etoile du Cachet Noir CD Am/Can TD. When Zener was bred to the following dogs:
CH Shah de Chateau Blanc BAR,
producing the Sunburst G litter
BIS CH Bonheur Star Treader
produced a litter for Don MacManus, Fortinbras A
CH Sunwise So Danger Beware BAR
was co-bred with Don MacManus, Fortinbras B
The next influential dog to join the family was CH StarBright Bonne Chance CDX Am/Can TD HIC PD1, PD2 BAR - Banner. I used Banner twice in my breeding program:
Bred to Apache, and they
produced
the Cachet Noir E litter
Cachet Noir K litter
was a result of a co-breeding using CH Uhara de Chateau Blanc CD BAR
Banner was influential in many breeding programs, even though he produced only 11 litters. He had BIS, HIT, Specialty winners to his credit, their offspring also produced BIS, HIT, and specialty winners. Banner's web pages give greater detail on his progeny. I often kept a stud fee puppy from his breedings, and these puppies took a letter and the Cachet Noir name:
LaTour's Fleur du Cachet
Cachet Noir Instant Replay (Malinois)
The next bitch to influence Cachet Noir was a stud fee puppy that did not take on my kennel name, CH Souvenir's Trivial Pursuit CD Am/Can TD HIC - Skye. This delightful little big mouth added her own flavor to the household - that of joy and happiness! She was bred to:
CH Crestar's Destyn BAR
producing the Cachet Noir L litter
CH Dali de la Pouroffe CD BAR
producing the Cachet Noir N litter
BIS CH XXl Gun Salut de Chateau Blanc CDX
producing the Cachet Noir O litter
CH Cachet Noir's Justin CDX was bred to CH Sunbright Astrid O'Bryjanta BAR, a bitch that was heavily inbred on my old Sunburst pedigrees. From this litter I took a bitch:
Remy was bred only once:
BIS CH Corsair's Wizard,
producing the Cachet Noir M litter
This breeding produced a bitch I later leased:
Cachet Noir Margaux AD
who produced:
Cachet Noir P litter bred to
CH Cachet Noir Eighteeen Karat Am/Can CD HIC
I hope everyone was able to follow this! Bear with me as I develop these history pages - and apologies to anyone I left out. Bitches bred to Banner and Treve will be detailed on the boy's pages.
