OFA Champions for Health Annual Award Program

Background information:

The OFA announced a new parent club partnership program titled, “Champions for Health”. The concept originally began in January of ’05 when the OFA website featured the AKC/Eukanuba BIS winning Bloodhound, Ch. Heather’s Knock On Wood. “Knotty” had not only just won one of America’s most prestigious shows, but had a full complement of health certifications as well. In 2006, the “Champion for Health” award was created and sponsored by OFA.

Each club that participates in CHIC is eligible to nominate three dogs for this award annually. The award will consist of an engraved silver medallion, and a $100 donation to the AKC Canine Health Foundation in the name of the honored dog. The award will be announced and given at the ABTC’s Annual Awards banquet.

Nomination Process:

Any AKC registered Belgian Tervuren can be nominated by its owner, breeder, or admirer. Each nomination should include a write-up of the dog’s accomplishments as well as a record of its health certificates. Please use the nomination form.

Selection Process:

Nominated Belgian Tervuren will be evaluated by the American Belgian Tervuren Club’s Health Education Committee (HEC) with three dogs forwarded to the OFA. CHIC registration is highly desirable but not required. A nominated dog must hold some sort of AKC championship title along with at least one performance title, more highly desirable. The ABTC HEC will forward the names and information of three dogs on to OFA with OFA having the final right to award.

Deadline for receipt of nominations for each annual cycle is FEBRUARY 15. Email Anita Aborn, or send via postal mail to 3749 Ciarlo Lane, Vacaville, CA 95688
